Imports of oil from Iran have increased by 17 per in April as compared to March on anticipation of a diplomatic deal on Iran’s disputed nuclear programme by next month-end, analysts said.

India received 6 Iranian vessels with about 2,64,000 barrels per day (bpd) of oil in April, and is expected to take delivery of two more vessels soon, taking the total to 3,16,000 bpd as against about 2,25,000 bpd in the corresponding period of the previous year.

Imports of Iranian oil in January-April 2015 more than halved to about 2,20,000 bpd after the country curbed purchases in the first quarter due to international pressure.
